Wheel bearing?

Any issues relating to suspension, steering and brakes.

Wheel bearing?

by Toddy » Wed Nov 09, 2005 12:35 pm

I'm getting a humming sound (and vibrations) through the cabin as I reach 50mph. Sounds like it's coming from the back passanger side somewhere. I'm thinking wheel bearing as when I go round a left hand corner the noise and vibrations die off.

Any ideas?

Jack the car up and grab wheel at top and bottom...see if there is any movment, also spin the wheel and see if you can hear any sounds (other than the brakes)

if you get movment have a good look at the bushes ..if nothing there its likley its you wheel bearing

not the job to DIY unless you have access to a press or large Vice ..but you can strip it down and take th hub to a garage and get them to press it in for you (cheaper that way)

Cheers mate, it's going in the garage soon for a full service so will get them to do it while it's there. Just wanted to be sure that it's the bearing that's on it's way out.

Yup, sounds exactly like a bearing.
