Brakes feel useless!

by se6 » Wed Sep 28, 2005 6:52 pm

For the last week i have had a Polo as a courtesey car. The brakes on it were absolutely awesome compared to mine. When i was driving it today for the first time in a week didnt think i was going to stop at one point!
Recently had new pads put on at the front, but long ago enough so that they are bedded in.
What can i do to have brakes comparable to the Polo? Do i need to go bigger discs, vented/grooved discs, special pads??
Any advice would be most appreciated, as i feel brakes are important.
Cheers

A good start would be to get the fluid replace - if that hasn't been done for a while, then it can reduce efficiency of the brakes.

get a braided hose kit then if your still not happy go for bigger discs and calipers,
remember its a 8v and the discs are very very small

Hmm.. aren't 8V and 16V same size? 256mm ventilated in front? 260mm solid rear?

I've changed to Bosch discs and pads.. The best 'non-race' you can buy

new car brakes always feel better compared to older cars, even with new disks and pads. advances in technology on new cars i suppose. I learned in a new fiesta and the difference between that and my corsas brakes were astounding. On the corsa i had to stand on them to get and thing decent out of them so i did it in the fiesta . nearly put my driving instructer through his windscreen.
