i have noticed that my fuel pump is making a gurgling sound as well as the normal buzzings ( even with a full tank ), it is quite loud..... any odeas guys. i am also struggling with the tick over a bit seems a bit lumpy and irregular. could this be to do with the fuel pump.

Sounds like it might be taking on air.. do you have the external or internal pump?
I'm guessing probably external as i cant see the internal one making a noise like that being submersed... so check the pipework and connectors from the tank to the pump for damp/leaks/petrol smell.

hi can i ask what engine u have as that makes all the difference!!
as for idle i would clean out your idle control valve (icv) use carb cleaner atleast half a big can, when i got my car it wouldnt start unless i pressed the acc pedal down and the engine nearly cut out all the time when slowing down at traffic lights,i cleaned mine and it starts first time and it never idles badly, its like a new engine, ive noticed a lot more throttle responce as well,if u have a 8v i can post up pics and a step by step how to if u want,
cheers jay
