Any electrical issues

by Furey » Thu Sep 09, 2004 9:24 pm

if i play the sterio loud for an extended period of time, the car will not often not start up again. i changed the battery about 8 months ago (could a battery be knackered so quickly?), and recently had a new alternator fitted. what else could it be? i considered the starter motor, but it seems to be related to playing the sterio for an extended period. also, if you run any electrical items with the engine off for more than a minuite the car wont start. ive only a sony headunit in my system, no subs or anything. any ideas as to what i should check?

sounds like the battery is running very low...
I would suggest that if the battery is ok, that you check the voltage over the battery with the car off, then idle.. if the voltage is going to 13+ volts ish.. when idling then its charging ok and you probably have a constant drain somewhere that is eating away the battery power so that a short usage of something else is taking the final remaining power

ive been offline for a long time, but I fixed this problem with ease if anyones interested. the 'new' battery i had fitted was simply knackered because it had been discharged so many times in the last few months. one new battery later and she's running like a beauty. cheers stupink, you were right about the battery.
