no life from starter

Hi Guys, hope everyone's ok.
Sorry for the long post but i want to explain myself just incase it sounds familular to anyone......
I am in the process of getting my old '91 model back upto scratch after being unloved for sometime.
Recently i found out (by the gearbox hitting the subframe) that there were no bolts in the engine mounting ...nice but since then she has refused to start. I replaced the plugs as they had been fouled up with the misses trying to persuede her to get home, however, no the starter doesn't even turn the car over or do the usual clicking thing like when the battery is low. I have changed the battery, placed jumpleads on and tried but there just is nothing.
I went around with the multimeter the other day and the battery power is getting to the starter and the other lead(highly technical !) that initiates the solenoid/starter is giving a strong current when you turn the key, it's just a case of nothing happening.....if you leave it for a bit and try again sometimes it makes a clicking noise .....I think the solenoid is knackered but wondered if anyone has had this problem or knows of it to be anything other then the solennoid.
Appreciate any guidance as it's driving me round the bend !
ps anyone know where you can get the CV boots which you just wrap around the driveshaft opposed to having to take the whole thing off etc...?

Hi Cookie
Firstly, where r you based? if you in south west area you can come down to us and we will do the cv joint boot for you.
Secondly, it could be that the starter is knackered or stuck. Grab a long bar and hit the body of the starter a few times with it and then try it again. Put your volt meter across the battery and then turn the engine, what sort of voltage does it drop to?
Cheers

Hi Guys, thanks for the tips.
I have now got the starter out and will work on it, think it's knackered though as I connected power to the terminals, worked for a 2 second period went slower then just clicked away at me and now zilch and no sparks when i connect the power.
Thanks again for the tips
