Uprated altenator
Hello all, currently my alternator struggles with my ice setup, to the point where my amp starts using battery "reserve" e.g voltage drops down to under 12v while car is running...
My ICE install will be SPL orientated in the new year, so a relistic figure would be about 1000w draw capable of upto 2000w rms...so at the draw from the alt will be anywhere from 70a - 120a depending on how loud i boom...
At half volume on HU, id expect around 200w rms @14v (14A) in total from 4ch amp to power all speakers, and around 700w rms (50A) from sub amp...and then obv whatever the car decides to eat up while its running..Of course it would be nice for the alt to stay stable at 14v there...
Has anyone uprated their alt? I know the turbo/v6 alts are higher rated, can i fit one of them on? How many amps are they rated at?
To be honest i dont think the draw from the ice would exceed 60-70a at most times, as i dont wanna go deaf! Ill probably uprate the battery, but i dont really play much music when the car isnt on...
Any recomendations?

Yup same here, i'm running anywhere between 2750-3250watts rms with my system. It blew a battery and an alternator and i've got a V6. So it was a case of a 3.2 alternator and battery from a 3.2V6 Veccy GSI, oh and definatly fit a powercap. All this soon stopped my volt meter going crazier than a rev counter lol.
This is my system:
3 x amps - total of 2800watts
3 x subs - total of 2600 watts
6x9's
uprated mids and tweets
2 x crossovers
powercap
and 0 cauge wiring kit.

If your on about the fuse at the bottom of my pic it's an 60amp from Autoleads and it is for show more than anything else. Tha main fuse is under the drivers seat and thats 120 taken from an old drill transformer. Ilive next door to a retired electrician so he gave me a hand with that.
