Front/Rear Washers !!! Driving me insane (MOT Monday)

by Calibra_uk » Wed Oct 04, 2006 6:28 pm

My windscreen washers (front & back) have stopped working.
The wipers work perfectly (when I flick the stalk to wash the windscreen, the wipers still go 4 times) but there's no water coming out at all. There is no sound from the pump, but the water bottle is full.

Ive put a +12V straight to the "V+" on the motor and it squirts fine. And ive check that the "V-" is earthed....

Ive just changed the Wiper Stalk on the steering wheel but its still the same!

The obvious answer is a fuse, but I have checked every single one and none of them have blown. I've checked the handbook and every fuse is present, and there doesn't seem to be a dedicated one for the washer - just one for the wipers (no.6, 30A).
is this fuse (for wipers) also for the Washers?????

Would some1 maybe be as kind to try pulling FUSE 6 (Wiper fuse) and then trying there washers? pls? (its the later type calibra)

Is there a fuse I don't know about?
Is there a relay that i dont know about?

Its driving me mad. Ive also pulled the plug off the motor. and pulled the washer trigger and there is only a TINY change in voltage goes from 0.00v to 0.03v ???

Pls help me ! MOT on monday, ill have to run a wire and swith into the cockpit otherwise which i dont want to do !!!

Also. is the motor triggered by having 12v applied to it when the switch is pulled or is it triggered by the earth being earthed? if you know what i mean lol

Cheers in advance

I had a similar problem few weeks back, the wipers worked as normal the pump made the right noises but nothing came out of the jets. tried everything even put on a non return valve in the tubing no luck changed the pump and problem solved.

Hope you get it sorted.

if its just for the MOT do a "blue peter job" and get a squeezy bottle full of water inside the car so you can lean out and squirt the windscreen with it, im 99% sure they cant fail you for that, particularly if you take it somewhere where they get you to sit in the car and run it through the motions ...... a bit like shouting BEEP when they ask you to do the horn, it works lol

LOL thanks

MOT should be ok

Well ive just discovered that:

Washer front dont work
washer Rear dont work
Electric mirrors left+right dont work
rear demister doesnt work
Heated mirrors dont work !!!!

I must have a serious problem somewhere?
maybe a live wire that feeds them all out or something?

will strip it down tmrw

of all that the only possible MOT issue is the front washers.

Right !!! im making progress !!!

From what ive gathered the + side of the motor always has 12v going to it....

When you push the stalk it connects the neg side of motor to earth

When i connect the +v side of the motor straight to the battery, everything works fine, but this way then the washers ARENT fused and will be working even without ignition....

So i still need to know are the washers fused ? do they share fuse6 along with the wipers?

pls some1 next time you get in your car pull fuse6 out and see if the washers also stop working !!!!!!
