FAO CRAIG ATHA Urgent

Came on last night and pops back on after the ECU check.

Anyone got any ideas on where to look and what to do?

Checking the airbag can be risky, but do it properly and you won't have anything to worry about.

I'd start by disconnecting the battery from the car and leaving it for about 10 minutes (this is longer than necessary). Then I'd take the airbag off the wheel and check the orange plug is connected correctly behind there. If you have a passenger airbag then do the same over that side as well.

If they're all seated correctly then it could be the control unit which is located under the centre console between the front seats.

In any case, the system won't be working at the moment and needs Vauxhall to reset it with a Tech 1 to clear and get functioning again. At about £20 a pop though, you might be better off seeing if Vauxhall can tell you which part of the system is causing the fault, and concentrate from there.

Actually it's 30 minutes after battery disconnection that you can "safely" remove the airbag wheel... in practice it would be less but would you risk it?

One small problem with going to Vauxhall.

They now charge £50 +VAT to run a diagnostic.

What a bunch of rip off merchants.

£50 plus the dreaded, jeez that's excessive!!

How about taking the car in for one of their free winter/summer checks, and chucking the mechanic enough wedge for a drink in return for hooking it up to Tech1...

Or try a local independant Vauxhall specialist as most of them these days have their own tech 1 or equivalent diagnostic tester.

Thanks Steve - I mentioned this to VX and they said that NO ONE except them have them *cough*b********cough*

I know someone (who is hard to get hold of) and will be popping over to see him early next week.
