Ecotec by any chance?
All of the 4 pots have their crank sensor below the power steering pump bracket (if your car's got aircon then it'll be behind the air con pump bracket.
If I recall correctly the V6's have them at the front of the engine as well but at the gearbox end, just above the sump.
A new sensor will probably cure the fault but be warned that Ecotecs suffer from interference in the wiring looms and the only long term cure is to fit a modified loom from Vauxhall (as I had to on mine).
