that will check what im on about hasnt happened then you know its an alternator fault (less likely imo though )

gonna wire the alty back up tomorrow and try a new set of clocks and see what happens.

ok campers we have a lil bit of progress!

had a damn good poke around the electrics with help from a friend the other day and after several test "he's a mechanic" he said "alternator is fooked"!!

but as it was a new one we then spread the search and found the ducting to the heat shield was not connected so the alternator was not being cooled!!!!!

so i'm gonna continue tinkering with the car fixing and tidying other bits until we can afford a new alternator then it will be on with tax and ticket!
