Removing the square switches

How do you remove the sqaure switches (aircon, recirculate, heater) from the car without damaging them.

small screwdriver at the bottem edge, well thats what i use on the fog light switchs

I used a plastic kids toy screwdriver, that my dad bought me as part of a toolbox for an xmas joke a few years ago, no scratches...

Unforunately I snapped it ages ago trying to prise something out..
