Camera

I'm sure there are a few experts on here. I'm looking for a new digital camera and thinking of the Sony Nex7, ideally looking for something compact whilst still good quality, anyone had any experience of using these?

Cheers, yea there is quite a bit of choice. Wanted an SLR but also a compact camera so the nex7 seems like a good compromise

Strangely, what you get perhaps ought to centre on something odd like how you are going to carry it or obvious like what kind of pictures you want to take.

If you are happy with it being 'fat' with a big lens stuck on the front, possibly in a 'traditional' type camera case, then a SLR probably fits the bill but it is a hassle carrying them and a lot of the time you won't bother with it.

On the other hand if you want to take it round with you a lot, taking family or 'candid' pictures so want to stick it in a pocket, then one of the latest super compacts would be good.

Just remember that most cameras over £100 nowadays take very good pictures and that it is very easy to get seduced into buying too much for what you need and then watching it crash in value. Like a new Audi buyer

Your along the same lines as my thought process.

I have a mobile phone for everyday snaps either at work or random stuff. although these pics are good enough for that sort of thing they cant be compared to a camera even as you say for something you can pick up for around £100 these days and would do a good job.

But I'm looking for something a tad better than a compact camera though and while a SLR would be great I agree they can be a hassle carrying around. The Nex 7 seems to answer that giving the quality of an SLR while having a similar body size to a compact camera. The obvious downside to that is the premium cost of it.

Had a good play with one today and looks a great camera. I'm put off slightly though as it comes with an 18-55mm lens which wont give the best zoom and a new lens is a small fortune.

Check out the Olympus SZ 31MR its about £250 and is a current Which? best buy.

Its a compact camera in name but not performance.

I have a Canon G9.

Also a Which? best buy :)

But it still has the bulk, if not the cost, of a 'proper' SLR.
