Tbh I know what your saying about not leaving your car for the MOT but sometimes its unavoidable what with work and that but really you would think there would element of trust with a garage you had used for years! Sadly this should just be a lesson not to trust anyone!

thats nuts, iv only read 1 page (lazy c**t) surly the car owner cant clam his insurance as it was being driven by by someone that was most likely not on his insurance (not a named driver) the garage owner can only drive your car if he is insured to with a trader policy,

worst of it is thats probably what will happen, insurance companys only look at book prices

if you can prove the condition of the car and its current market value you can force them to pay its true value

i had to do this when my mk2 gte was stolen and written off last year and ended up with 2.5k for an old h reg gte 16v

i manage to do this by proving the car was worth more than the 600 quid they offered as i had a fully documented build and restoration inc pics of all stages of restoration and contacted owner of the mk2 owners forum for a letter stating the car was in perfect condition before the theft. i also provided paper copys of what the vehicles were selling for via ebay piston heads etc in the same or poorer condition than mine

few months later after a couple of legal letters and some help from CAB i was offered 2.5k and the car back

I'm suprised no one has mentioned CCTV within the area to check for evidence of who was driving etc.

worked in garages for a few years and that is common thing (or was in my day) have seen the plates and road tax taken off a customers car and another car plates and tax put on (same model colour) and driven 1000 miles on a buying trip down south, speedo was disconnected though which was easy as unplugging the electrical pick up

parts swapped that are know to be defective so they can claim thwarrantyty twice

and loads of other things ...I would guess someone with big feet drove it and they had work boots on, got feet stuck under the pedals ...could even have been taking it out the MOT bay...and hit something in the yard

I would say the glass got hit from the outside, and the paint transfer on the front bumper would say it was white what ever it hit....that big tow truck maybe


still very unprofessional of them to then threaten the guy and ask him to claim his insurance

Thats anyones worst night mare with their pride and joy. Hope the owner manages to get it sorted and can claim off the garage.
