Stupid question i know, but whats it made of?

Now if it was plastic i would guess it was just plastic lol, no the metal one mate, is it ali or cast or what?

aluminium alloy i thought...sure people polish them

just checked mines alloy,and on ebay theres a polished one...also a heatshield,plug cover and all bolts for 42 plus post all shiny stainless....search c20xe polished.

Cheers kinty, yea, i just bought one, and it got delivered today, and tbh im not all that impressed, so i wanna buy a kit and finish it off myself and see what i can do and maybe make some myslf as i like doin stuff like this.

i got a spark cover on its own that was polished apparently, the letters are not bad at all, but the grain in the background is still there and there are weird imperfections round the letters that need sorting.

yeah i see,youve bought an original one...i was on about stainless covers.
i bought an alloy polishing kit...the drill type with abrasive bars etc....had good results on my e30 m20 engines,around letters is awkward....dremel teritory.you blinging yours up?i might paint my cam cover back original silver instead of the blue it is at present.


r.e your other post.."more power"they reckon the xe was rated at 170 bhp but vauxhall fit with a smaller exhaust manifold to improve torque consequently reducing the bhp,so i might get a 4-2-1 in larger bore.this info is from sbd.

right guys, behind the letters on the cover, is like a casty looking grain, what is the best way to get this grain out?

either wet n dry to flat it or buy a polishing kit ..search polishing kit on ebay

I got myself a polishing kit but it dont quite take the grain out 100%

Ill get some wet and dry on it tomorrow

I paid 20 for the one i have which is "half done" , and i found some wet and dry and it has come out fantastic so far! Alot of work though getting it perfect!
