Does this mean anyone with the angel eye
units will have to change them back to the

I was out in Mark1's area a few weeks ago in this -

Image

When the car in front started slowing down (not too unheard of with that behind you) then it just stopped in the middle of the road, so we moved along side to ask what was the matter to be told that our headlights were too bright! (factory fit BMW HID's).

While i do understand the predicament that you guys face, having had a few calibra's in my past, but i have seen some of the dazzle that these kits do give out! You have to remember that other road users don't have the ability to move their rear view mirror into a night position for example.

Also don't forget that the some members of the police, can conduct a roadside MOT (basically) and if you were driving at night, with lights that didn't comply, could issue a prohibition notice on the car not to be driven on the road.

in England/Wales causing undue dazzle is a non endorsable fixed penalty, last time i issued a ticket for it so no points for it.

Good points there Ian. One of the lost opportunities of the past 10 years was not feeding back the vast revenues from speed cameras into police traffic activities. The roads would be a lot safer now if they had.

But it does mean that you would have to be very unlucky or just stupid to be stopped by a traffic patrol car. You can travel 100s of miles without seeing one nowadays.

I use my HID lights, which are the later more powerful 50 watt bulbs, in semi-automatic levelling mode, using the height adjuster to lower the beam in town and in traffic and raise it on the open road. The cut-off passes the MOT anti dazzle beam height test when on the highest setting.

There are traffic police out there, although never enough, and it is there primary role to deal with roads policing matters, as well as anything else that a constable may be called to deal with, i won't lie and will say that if i spot a car with HID's that are non standard, the vast majority are pretty easy to spot, it does make me take a closer look at the car...

A few of the people on here have met me, and know i am pretty normal ;) and i like to treat everyone i come in contact with in a fair manner, but just remember that one of the traffic officers primary role is that of keeping the roads safe for all road users, so some of these conversions do cause dazzle, which can be a contributary factor in a collision, particularly involving a solo, or a pedestrian who can't see for the glare.

(i'm not tarnishing all users with the same brush, thats not a thing i do either)

I can't comment for all area's but the officers trained in prohibition, have to take several courses, one of which is 3 weeks long in its own right, as they are basically conducting a roadside MOT, they normally carry a copy of the latest VOSA handbook (book is not the right word really) of rules and regulations.
