new project
new project
we have got our grubby little hands on one of these beauty's, it has only had three owners from new and at the minute it is looking pretty sad for itself as soon as i get it back at mine i will take some pictures, but this is what it will look like when it is all finished , our one has everything that the one has in the picture, but it needs a lot of work but watch this space as new project has begun
its the black firenza estate
i know that it isnt a calibra but it is a bit of history and we have picked it up very cheap as it is a friend of a friend

Re: new project
very rare them things ( i am sur ethey have a special name as well)...I used to have a Magnum (Long time ago) so if you want a hand give me a shout, are you going for a standard engine rebuilt or a C20XE transplant?
Re: new project
From DSG site
Sportshatch
So what do you do if you've a few hundred Droopsnoot nosecones left over? You make a sporting estate...
Now officially called the Magnum, Vauxhall's big engined HC load carrier was crying out for the Droopsnoot treatment, particularly after the Styling Department came up with Wayne Cherry's one-off sporting estate, Silver Bullet. The Sportshatch wasn't quite as radical as Bullet, with only the four headlights and a standard Magnum 2300 slant four; but it got the Droopsnoot's tweaked suspension and Avon safety alloys, that nosecone, and a deep, dark red paint job with thick bright red stripes at the waistline - and another outlet for Vauxhall's '70s tartan fetish.
Sadly, as with the Droopsnoot, the Sportshatch didn't really fly off the forecourts, and the build finished at two hundred odd examples; but again Vauxhall created an instant classic, started a trend for sports estate cars, and established a name that continues with the current 16 valve Astras.
Very rare car indeed. Great Project.
(the guy that built/modified most of their HS Chevettes on DSG site is the guy that rebuilt my engine, my mate that popped over on Sat eve' at Billing)

cheers fraz mate ,we are going to keep it standard mate as it is pretty original and the light covers are still glass and not perspex and i think it would be a shame to mess about with it,, the engine has locked up but i know it was running last year as it was floating about so it needs a lot of work but im up for it and in some respect it is part of calibra history aswell,

Re: new project
engine is same as a Bedford CF van though the van had low comparison pistons fitted. Stromberg Carbs are not the best and very problematic, and I would think kinda hard to get parts for now
Re: new project
it needs be mate i will compromise for mordern carbs but i am looking forward to getting it sorted, and i probably will give you a shout as well as the lads aswell ,lol
