Thats never going to happen because it will upset the PC people and human rights mob as well. They are wanting to cut jobs in the public sector to save on the vast cost of their pensions and hope the private sector will absorb the masses. Thats not going to happen either as the private sector is on its knees. How many people these days can say they have a career? If like me we are all working to survive these days.
Increasing vat will kill jobs not that the government took any notice as they are all patting themselves on the back for a job well done. Think about it, we are taxed at source, taxed on savings, taxed on insurances, taxed on clothing, and indirectly taxed on food. Even a child buying a 50p choccy bar is taxed for f**k sake.
Why not increase petrol prices and then do away with road tax. Everyone needs petrol but not everyone pays road tax.
My rant over now, back to work to pay my VAT now

The issue I have with the fuel protest's is that everybody would rather pay more than stop an unelected Tory government rape our wallets....The Irony is that these are the people who moaned and blamed Labour for the banking crisis but when it comes to kicking the Tories where it hurts (they do nothing) sooo frustrating!!

...was of 9th Jan. Just two months on and I'm seeing £1.35 at many forecourts. That's 2.5% in a month, which has been the trend since late last year. A compound calculation using 2.5% a month means that by the middle of next year it will be over £2.00 a litre (almost £10 per gallon). Looks like the car is going to have to spend even more time asleep in the garage :sleeping-sleeping:
