Tyre size choices

by bodgetastic » Sun Feb 17, 2013 10:10 pm

I'm planning on putting my original 16" wheels back on my calibra. The standard tyre size for these is 205 x 50 x 16 but these arent available in the tyres I'm looking at so I have a choice of 215 x 50 x 16 or 205 x 55 x 16. The 215 x 50 x 16 would be the better fit but does anyone see a problem with running these instead of standard size?

I have ContiSport 205/55/16 on my Turbo (£25 per tyre cheaper than the 205/50/16). They are oversize so the speedo is probably correct! but they do look noticeably 'bigger' than a 50 profile.

I'd fit some 215/55 R16's

Would certainly improve the ride, and reduce the wheel arch gap, at the same time...

215 50 16 ... done and dusted

although 215 is not exactly wide but with a working 4 x 4 (the only one in the world) it should be enough to propel you down the straights

the 50 side wall is plenty enough

16's sooooo much better for power runs than the 18's although it'lll look gay as f**k!

Yoko A048 were also on my list but same problems with sizing.

Will 215's fit on a 7J wheel - assuming thats what they are?

have you considered the lesser end of the track tyres? like the AD08 neova etc, thats what im going for on the mr2 as its going to get road miles.. much more mileage out the set and better for road use. far cheaper too..

anyhow, the 215 is a better fit imo, less likely to rub, and the benifit of a bit more tyre on the road.

Cheers will have a look, dosent look like the neova do a 215 but that said Ive had the same tyres on the car now for about 5 years with little wear so dont mind sticking the 888's on
