Fitted new aerial gasket today. Easy fix (pics)

by bluejuz » Fri Apr 06, 2012 5:25 pm

Been getting a few little jobs sorted on the old girl lately.

My aerial rubber gasket had perished away over the years and it was bugging me so I ordered one of them replacement rubbers off eGay.
As you all probably know you cant actually get one for the rather large base of the calibra bee-sting.
So I thought I would order the biggest one listed. Which is listed as about 60mm x 43mm oval and costs about £3.65 plus p&p.

Anyway it arrived in the week and initially it does look too small but after boiling the kettle and pouring the water into a glass with the gasket in and leaving it for 5 mins or so it stretches quite nicely over the base.

And hey presto......

Yea original vauxhall one has a larger area of rubber under the base but the one I used does have a bit of a lip still going under.

You could always use some silicone sealer underneath the base to cover all bases as it were if anyone is worried water may get under new rubber.

Ive had 2 bases on mine in 8 years, and i'm going to need a new one before long :(

For an actual Bosch part, the quality is terrible :(

I was going to buy a shark fin, but i dont want to loose the rear washer.

That's not a bad price from autovaux.

Also to Ryan_warman, There seem to be only 2 different sizes listed on eBay. So I ordered the largest one. It is listed for a wide range of cars but obviously not the calibra. That is why I just took a chance and bought it. Once you pop it into some hot/boiling water you will find you can stretch it over your calibra base.

Thanks Bluejuz I've posted this on a couple of other forums and credited you for it. I'm sure it will help a lot of people

Here's a screenshot of the eBay seller / auction details for when the link expires (90 days?)

Has anyone had any problems with these, such as water ingress after fitting?
