Mate...

It's actually quite a reasonable Price... ;)

You're not in the UK anymore, where the Calibra are very affordable! ;)

No V6 in reasonable working condition, will be sold at less than $4000

How much is that in GBP??? ;)

Mate...

It's close to the £2,600 mark... ;)

Funny how the values of Calibra vary, from here to there!

Oh well, no harm in window shopping! ;)

Oh about 5K I would think, but getting one over there is also silly money. Now how much does a engine and gear box in for?

Having spent more time in Australia than any other country in the last three, probably five, years and having the space in Queensland to store both the car and tools/spares etc, I had a good look at taking a Calibra Turbo there.

A few pointers:

The Aus$ / GB£ exchange rate makes OZ eyewateringly expensive compared to what it was like 5+ years ago; despite today's AUD interest rate cut that isn't going to change anytime soon.

Oz price for a decent Turbo is at least £6k, much more if it has been maintained properly, very few come up for sale and you might need to travel a long way to get it..

Availability of used spare, service & tuning products for the Calibra in Oz is close to non existent and very expensive. Almost everything has to be sourced from Europe: airmail is horrific for things such as brake discs.

Shipping the Calibra Turbo from UK to Aus is straightforward , price about £2500, cheaper if you shop around/ accept longer delivery/ do some of the paperwork/ prep car yourself.

Of course, within the same shipment you can load the car up with spares both for your own needs and for a bit of extra pin money from local Calibra owners. ( Although I find attempted group buys by Oz calibra owners are about as 'successful' as those by UK Calibra groups, lol). Spare F28s and TXBs would be high on the list...

Not something that would affect me, but there is zero support from Holden (GM Vaux/Opel downunder) dealers in terms of mechanical skillbase and knowledge of the Calibra Turbo.

The authorities thus plod are far stricter on mods than in the UK, they are even harsher than in Italy :(.
I believe, though haven't confirmed, that if you register an imported Calibra with existing mods, you can get away with stuff that wouldn't be allowed once there. ( I take advantage of similar scenario with Calibra's in Europe where the UK is far more flexible on mods than other EU countries.)

With my own lifestyle , it proved better to rent locally instead - I was getting a spanking new XR6 (4.0 V6) for £25 a day long term hire paid monthly in arrears; If I settled there full-time based out of a single location, and wanted a Calibra ( or Jaguar XKR ) it's a no-brainer - far,far better to ship over.

While the price of used cars in Oz tends to be much higher than in the UK, I find the price of new cars there to be substantially lower, something to bear in mind if the attachment for the Calibra is wearing thin..
