Billing Funnys

by Callyman » Mon Jul 12, 2010 1:09 pm

Best bit for me was the old ***** from VBOA who shoved the Microphone into my car and said "This isnt a standard colour what is it?"
I replied Vauxhall Ceramic Blue, to which he said "Oh, didnt know that, but it looks purple"
Also saying the SE6 was one of the last SE's right after being told the red one was a SE9
Almost as good as Stevas Green one with big wheels. :bang:

He seemed to know his stuff when I watched the Victors going round. Then when the Vectras went round he didn't have a clue what to say

Both the announcers were long-term Vauxhall employees - and whilst they may not know about Calibras, most Calibra people don't know the colour names of Vauxhalls from the 1950s, 60s or 70s!

Ian Coomber also was MD of Vauxhall during the latter part of the nineties and early 21st century, so his strength may not be detail, but management!

Personally I feel it's part of the strength of the meet that the announcers get summat wrong about all the cars, then none of us can complain we are being singled out!

thats a fair point but some time he does put his foot in it , i heard him call A lotus carlton replica a fake and all he coud say about Sharons car that went on to win a VOBA cup "its got a bent wheel" come on, surly it would be better for him to be asking some one (a club rep) questions while the cars just drive around the ring insteed of 2nd guessing what things are

yes but I would then ask the owner what the colour was, or model or whatever since I know I knew nothing about the car

would be better to

A. get the club rep to do an announcement about the particular vehicle
B. have all going into the ring to prepare a short note about the car

Its way too much to ask one person to try and know everything about every single vehicle that goes round the ring
