The overall plan
Right! Time for a small update on this I think, its been far too long!
Well as you all know, i've moved house now and witht he calibra still engineless it had to be towed.
Two engines also had to be move and to be frank the whole day nearly killed me
Here she is up on the trailer
Finally its moved and on my new drive...
Unforutnately the beloved run around saab has popped its clogs on the M1 so its forced a speed up on the calibra
This weekend were hoping to have the gearbox and engine back in the cally so plenty to do
More to come at the weekend

Right well its 10 o clock and me and my dad have been finished for 2 hours, after starting at 8am
Both knackered!
I apologise now for the quality of some of the photos as we were in a rush especially with the weather...
With the help of Trigs engine crane (cheers again matey) the engine was lifted ready for cleaning...
A quick ******* later and its fairly clean, you can even read the casting date on the 2nd photo...
The flywheel bolts were tightened up to thier proper torques..
With the F28 conversion (6 speed) the turbo clutch is required so the V6 flywheel bolts need precision machining to avoid interfering with the friction plate...
(WARNING: Gratuitous grinder action
)
The clutch was properly lined up...
Tada! Clutch all on...
With the engine ready for installation it was time to look at the gearbox...
The F28 conversion requires a bastardisation of the F25 and F28 linkages so that was made and fitted..
Also theres a lug on the F28 box which catches on the oil cooler pipes so that was also precision machined off...
The offside drive shaft spacer was fitted to the bracket... (4 pot gearbox to 3 pot wide engine needs spacing
)
No matter how much you try and keep things in order, theres always a damned mess!
With the gearbox and engine ready for installation we ran a wire for the oil pressure guage around the engine bay and through the bulkhead...
Hard work this... :p
The gearbox went in and all mounts done up...
Its crunch time...
An hour later...
And finally!
Loads still to do but at least the engines back in now

my hands clean because its the back of my damned hand mum! at least i know the front from the back, plus i had to clean them off to keep taking the "my computers broken" phone calls :p
Anyway!
Done a bit more today, not really much to look at but basically it entailed plugging things in. I intended on getting the wishbones off too but I ran out of time
It started like this...

I thought about putting the sparks in but decided against it for the time being but it took me about 30 mins to find them! Nice denso iridium plugs

Next on was the PAS pump...

And on with the fuel lines...

Having never attached a clutch cable or adjusted one before i was pleased it didn't take me too long to figure it out and now properly adjusted according to the haynes bible...

Heres how it finished, with more pipes attached and electrics hooked up...

Plenty more to be getting on with, havent started the suspension or brakes, interior needs sorting and wiring inside finishing. New mirrors attaching, exhaust putting on, driveshafts on etc etc...
Not sure it will be ready for Billing
Ill leave you with a pic of my new torsion bar in place...

More soon

Arse bugger etc
Had one of those nights tonight.
Wanted to get the wishbones off and the calipers painted with another coat on the front and the first coat on the back...
I started by taking the car off its wheels...
I then added another coat to the inlet...
Once that was done i started trying to get the wishbones off. The first one came off fine... but the 2nd one was a pain in the *** and ruined the night!
First the arb link nut wouldn't undo and then i broke my 16mm socket trying to get the rear bolt out!
Tip No.1:
Buy decent equipment..
Tip No.2:
Dont use your body as leverage against the brakes to get off nuts that will break your equipment...
I will carry on on Thursday now, had enough for the day!
