Road trip

For all general things Calibra related

Road trip

by MarkV6 » Mon Feb 25, 2013 8:45 pm

Finally got fed up with the Calibra overfuelling and chugging at idle, so about a month ago I started looking for a place that could fit the Omex 710 ecu I had.

I wanted to use the original car wiring so that I could revert back to the original ecu for whatever reason, so I would need a little adaptor loom making up.

Found this place EFI-Parts in Runcorn that said they could do the job as I wanted it done. They will be fitting the ecu and setting it up on the rolling road too.

So cue a 180 mile trip for my brother and I.... :auto-driving: :auto-nascar: to drop the car off

180 miles - 30 litres of fuel is about 26mpg on a 65-70ish cruise the moment  The Isignia cdti made it there and back on just over the same amount

Going to pick the car up a week Thursday and see what the difference is :auto-layrubber:
I used to own this Calibra...
I now own this one.

I would really suggest getting a new loom made to suit the ECU and keep yours if you ever want to go back to standard management. a 15+ year old loom only spells problems if you ask me and a new loom will do away with a lot of redundant wiring anyway.

I did think about that, but thought of the extra work trying to remove the loom, then having to refit it all if needed. Thought it'd be easier to just have the ecu's to unplug.

Chris (the guy that runs the place) said he could map it for what it was putting out now on the standard ecu, but I said :naughty: :naughty: I want as much as is safe

I found the RR printout from when the engine was in the previous car so will put up a comparison when I get it back next week

Touch wood mine has never been on the back of a breakdown wagon, and I'd like to keep it that way thank you. Which means that Ally can't have a go in it either :assshaking:

:angry-screaming: :angry-screaming: F*****G CARS :angry-screaming: :angry-screaming:

Brought the Calibra home today on the standard ecu, as the Omex ecu is trying to work the idle control valve at a faster frequency than its happy with. So basically the valve is saying 'Get f****d' :obscene-birdiedoublered: and it won't idle.

So now have to get the Omex universal icv, plug the 30mm hole in the bottom of the plenum to take a 13mm pipe, get Roose to make an intake hose with a 13mm take off for the icv, find somewhere to mount the icv, then get it back up to EFI for mapping.

So far it's been 320 miles in the Calibra, and 740 in the Siggy. My brother has driven my Calibra more than me this year
