bilstein shocks

But I personally would not lower one unless I sorted the rear camber at the same time.
Baz, get a complete 2nd hand setup and put some 19's on it.
Never had a camber problem with the two sets i used.

Re: bilstein shocks
Baz, the height of the car is determined by the spring, not the shocks, no matter how shagged they are, although if the shocks are too long for the spring height, they will bottom out.
All the shock does is it dampens the bounce effect the spring naturally gives.
I'd bet your springs are ok, you just need shorter shocks.
But, remember having 'correctly' lowered/stiffer suspension will give you a much harder ride. You think pot holes are bad now?

Re: bilstein shocks
thats all in well guys with keeping the existing springs but these are years old and i dont even know what cars my mate had them on tbh ,i would have to ask him but when you also do a search on spax springs they arent very rated either just like people are telling us about the Gmax springs.
If i could do the bilstein setup with my spax springs i dont know with how old they are wud they last tbh , i can see where steves thinking is coming from but if the springs get shagged somehow then i would be forced to get another set if they arent man enough for the job.

Re: bilstein shocks
sorry andy but i think in my eyes your turbo is on stilts and you can see your suspension strut which i dont like im afraid .But thats my opinion and as my car has been lowered like it has (but really its been a mismatched setup which needs to be changed.

All im saying is i dont honestly think i could use the spax springs with the like of bilsteins shocks, i could be wrong but thats all im saying.
I did have a look this morning regarding gmax springs vs spax springs and its a half and half decision but im not having a standard setup again so there out of the equation so its just deciding which springs /shocks combo/kit is best for a road car.

Re: bilstein shocks
Thanks for the photo of my own car baz. I do know what it looks like.
Lowering a turbo isnt as straight forward as a FWD calli, as it can ruin the transfer box.
Thats why ive not done it....it would cost me alot as the camber HAS to be corrected, also my exhaust (as you know) is stupidly low already so it's not an option at the moment.
I'm hoping to get the exhaust rebuilt soon, so will look into it after that.

Re: bilstein shocks
lol sorry mate i was just pointing out a theory
I understand because you have the tx box so im sure its not as easy .
If it was possible i could use the current spax springs with a set of bilsteins shocks then im sure that would work but i dont know that for definate.

Re: bilstein shocks
I have lowering springs on my car with standard bilstien shocks and the ride is ok. The ride is harder than standard suspension, but that is what i prefer.
Looking at your springs, i would change them anyway. Buy the best springs you can afford. The bilstiens cost me £180 approx for the four of them and the springs are cheap lo-suspension ones as they were all i could afford due to needing them for the mot.

Re: bilstein shocks
well my bilstein shocks arrived yesterday and will be fitted at the earliest opportunity
if your not willing to pay £180 for bilstein shocks Baz thats up to you nobody is forcing you to buy them. i personally am not happy with the g-max shocks so thats why i'm changing them.
if you really want a set of g-max shocks i'll sell you the ones i'm taking off my car cheap
