Anything new?

by Callyman » Mon May 13, 2019 9:33 am

As we are into show season now, anything new on your cars this year? or what have you had to replace/repair?
I've not done much to mine, but have replaced my 18's with some 17" BBS I had refurbished at Platinum alloys in Swindon (Highly recommended)
All 4 were bent and the dents needed welding up.
I will also will be replacing my sump gasket hopefully this month as its a bit weapy.

Well, being honest I’ve not had much time with Cliff this last year. Put him back on the road last month, been out 2-3 times. Noticed a minuscule coolant leak so last week front bumper off and found jubilee clips on the silicone hoses all needed pinching up. Got them all including heater matrix connections. Hadn’t realised the expansion/contraction of the silicone caused this but glad to have caught it!

Yes I've had to do the same since mine were fitted. Everything else ok?

Spot on, running well - will do an oil/filter change soon just as preventative but the oil is still golden tbh...

Have some longer term projects I want to get done like fitting cruise control, replacing the weather strips, a little under-car maintenance etc but nothing pressing.

Funny but when my brother was over he commented how smooth and rattle free the ride is even on our gravel road - compared with the newish Opel and Audi he’s been in :)

Well this is a new one for me at least...

Last week I went searching online for some aluminium instrument cases for a diy phono amp and I ended up buying one of these;

It's got a few minor issues and a major one, those bloody rear tail lights. The sunroof motor seems to have packed it in but there's a known working spare in the boot. Door and rear cards are lifting in all the usual places, the headlining needs doing and it's missing a few bits here and there.

I might put out a call on here under the wanted section if you guys (and gals) can help out.

Clutch needs doing but otherwise it is good, really good, mechanically. It feels tight and drives well with no clunking or odd noises. Had a mechanic check over the 4wd/tbx and he said all is good.

Apart from the tail lights (you know where I'm coming from ;) ), some d*** fitted rear parking sensors into the rear bar so I've got 4 x 22mm holes now to fill and the wiring to remove. A push button start where the ashtray should reside...really?

Roof lining off today and will be sent for recovering tomorrow. Will give me an opportunity to swap sunroof motors and get the mechanism cleaned and lubed. Need an aerial base rubber seal so will pick up a VW Polo one tomorrow and fit that at the same time. Need to scrub the plastic trims and colour them black before they go back in. Need a replacement driver's sun visor mirror so that's another thing to organise. Busy as today was, tomorrow looks even busier, but we all know that's just the way it is right.

Ok so after going over the car I've come up with a list of bits n pieces that are either broken or plain missing as long as my arm. I got lucky though with a local with a parts car who went through my list and picked off nearly everything I needed. Top bloke to boot. Not many would go to the trouble he has :clap:

Will still need a few bits but I'll wait till I receive this box of parts and see what's left. C a l m and s l o w l y does it for now.
