Fuel Tank Sender

by vec 160 » Fri Apr 06, 2018 8:14 pm

Following on from Big Daz and Phill in the post started by big Daz (viewtopic.php?f=12&t=51487), i have got a price for a minimum order of 20 at a price of £29.40 +vat each.
They would be made as per the drawing put up by Phill with the recess in the holes for the fuel pipes to be bonded in( these would have to be made and put in by yourself).

I will give it a couple of weeks to see if there is any interest and i will let the company know if i want them made or not,

Would they be able to mill this from a plastic or nylon billet as it may work out cheaper per unit. Just a thought to maybe get more orders bud.

Seen this on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Calibra-Fuel ... SwruxbIWOw
It's looks good for the price he is asking £150 but i think the flange Vec 160 was trying to get made for 29.40 + vat with some assembly required looks a better option for the pocket. It's a pitty it never got the numbers required to get it made.

this whats wrong though Vec 160 was offering a solution to the problem yet nobody wanted to jump on it. that is until it does become a problem and they cannot get a new tank topper and then they end up scrapping the car. i would rather have a part lying there that i could need in the future now than not be able to get that part at all. but maybe thats just me

It's not for me to say but I will anyway...

Had a few interested parties at the time paid say double the asking price, then a minimum run quantity might have been achievable :?:

Any left over parts could have been sold off to subsequent owners looking for these.

£60 odd quid and peace-of-mind with a potential spare to sell off has got to be better than shelling out £150 in a time of need, no?

Carry on.

I would have thought vec160 would have had more than 20 orders for this when you think about the number of members we have and know about this issue. I also think it would be better to be made out of a plastic or nylon billet as whatever fuel pipes, unions, glands etc you may use to connect to the fuel lines may be thicker than the hole on the flange, i would rather drill through plastic or nylon than alloy. It may even be cheaper to make. Just my opinion.

Just an idea, can anyone get access to a 3D printer

I reckon you’re right but traffic to the site can be quite low, so perhaps many didn’t see the post. I just noticed the one on eBay was reduced £20 this morning. Still a heck of a price...

Is it only the Post 95 models, with the 'In-tank' Fuel Pump, that gets corroded so fast?

All models have this issue Eddey, the post 95 model is different but is made with the same metal and will still rust as its a water trap at the top of the tank.

Back in 2013 when Eddey first offered to supply some of these flanges I bought one from him that I have never used and, having checked the flange in the car and applied some protection to it, am now not likely to. So I have just put it on eBay as item 163418045911.

My problem now is I can't find how in the eBay links bit of the Parts For Sale section I can put a link up to it, there is no 'start a new topic' button like there is in the Parts For Sale section itself. Given the likely interest in this rather rare part can I put it in the latter section?

Thanks John
