SAMARAI's 1995 Opel Calibra 16v Ecotec ;)

by SAMARAI » Tue Sep 18, 2012 3:52 pm

Hey guys! I'm from Australia and here is my pride and joy.
I've had her since November 2011. She's a 1995 Ecotec, manual!
Best car I've owned! Especially next to my old 1979 Honda Accord and then my 2000 Toyota Camry csi.

I'm keen for any feedback and tips on modding!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As she stands!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The previous owner kept everything stock except had:
- Installed a Tow Bar
- Rear windshield spoiler
- Muffler (fairly loud but legal)
- Aftermarket Kenwood headunit
- Black vinyl on the rear bumper (ridiculous)

UPDATE!
Current Mods:
- 3.5inch exhaust tip
- Installed Multi-Coloured LED Neons in the footwells
- New chrome Tow Bar
- The left indicator stalk needed replacing, works like perfect now
- Painted the brake calipers red!

Image

- Alpine headunit, Alpine rear 6x9 speakers, 6" Clarion fronts and replaced my factory tweeters with those from a 1997 v6 Calibra
- Adjusted the front lowbeams higher up so visibility is increased
- White window wiper blades
- Resprayed the top half of the front bumper

Image

- Bogged and resprayed over scratches from previous owner
- 17" ROH Rims

Image

- Premium Numberplates
- Opelised the rims, Front V grille and rear + Chrome badges on rear

Image

- White LED's in glove box, Interior roof light, boot, numberplate lamps and Parkers

Standards to LED’s – So much brighter with a hint of blue.. The new look is great!
Image

Shows the rear numberplate off much better aye? ;) So much more fresh!
Image

With LED’s the interior is so much more of a joy to be in. Its so bright and vibrant now I got a comment from a passenger the other night that they needed glasses it was so much brighter than before XD
Image

Much easier to see the whole boot now!
Image

Again fresh looking even in the Glove Box! :P
Image

The rear looks complete now! Opelised, chrome badges and LED numberplate lamps! Proud to leave the tailgaters in my dust now! ;)
Image

- Re-blacked the trim ie, door handles, door/bumper trim, seatbelts, window wipers and seals!

This was the first area I tested on!

Image

After.. I decided it looked so good that the rest of the car was going BLAAACK!

Image

Roof Racks before..

Image

Roof Racks after! much better in black!

Image

The rear had the most faded strip..

looks very nice, not too sure about the back bumper near the wheel being black

and I still dont like them brake lights you have on the tailgate ...would loose that and fit a high level one on the rear window if its required by law

as for bit I am sure Eddy will tell you where he got his badges etc from

I thought of the same lines of the black part on the wheel arches! Guess it does protect the bumper and also hides much of the road dirt and dust! I think it will stay!

I could attach an LED strip on the inside of the windshield.. But to be honest I like it because it's a unique design to all the other cars here! I'm used to the brake light now but true it does spoil the sleek look a little.
For now it'll stay! Tho I might look for a factory spoiler with the integrated LED like the DTM one!

Cheers for the feed back gyys

Looking good, a proper mint looking Calibra....get get abit jealous of you guys out there with the mainly hot dry weather...it means next to no rust on your Calibra's!!

I have to agree with what has been said about the Black rear bumper sections and also the brake light though.

Welcome Mate...

Your Calibra looks to be in fairly decent condition...

I always get excited, when another 'White Calibra' comes around... :o

The first thing I did when I bought my car, was to replace the stock wheels...
I've had both 17's and 18's and I'd say that the 17's give both looks and performance...
The 18's look better, but the ride is alot harder and I'm on 225/40 R18, so get 215/45 R17

Then I upgraded the side indicators, as the standard ones look too outdated...
This was a fairly easy upgrade, and I also recommend the clear ones for the white car...

I agree that the 'Chrome Style' of Badges, will certainly add more sparkle to Your car... ;D
I'll keep an eye out for you for them, but they are quite hard to source now!!!

I suggest You paint the 'Roof Spoiler' in white, and do the 'black bits' on the Rear Bumper as well... ;)

Anyway, You'll find alot more useful information for Your Calibra, on this Site!!! ;D

Thanks man. I do take pride in keeping her looking tip top.
I guess our dry climate is ideal for cars and keeping them rust free! True that. It also means paint on panels can fade if your not careful.

Thanks man. Great to be a part of this forum. Gd to see you again.

I cant really complain with her condition man. Previous owner was very careful by the looks of it!

Such a stunning and shick colour mate! Snap for white Calibras!!

17’s do seem like the one to go with! Im saving and looking at a set I like. You say 18 is a bit too hard? Hrmm ok cheers.

Definitely want to get onto changing the side indicators, clear is a must. Ive seen quite a few on ebay.. just have to get one to Aus ;)

Well when I first got the car mate I did manage to debadge a chrome “Calibra_V6” but its not 100% might just do. Im also thinking about opel badges too! Gotta scout around! Any help would be amazing mate cheers!

I may photoshop the spoiler to see how it would look white.. but I don’t really mind it black.. I guess it works with the colour coding of the trim on the outside of the car.

I can tell there’s gems of info out!

Cheers again Eddey!

Hey there man! cheers!
Well im sure mud flaps would work better.. but i dont think i want to wreck the sleek look of the calibra with a set of flaps.. For now atleast the black parts stay.. I may paint over it in the future.. the rear bumper will get sprayed soon. but cheers! an opinion is an opinion cheers! :P

Clear plastic would look better, you can buy the same plastic that they use on helicopter blades in sheets.

I guess that helicopter blade plastic stuff would really blow it out the water with protection. I think this was a basic look and protection. I dont really mind it. Its something different. Sets mine apart from other Cali's ;) almost could call it a decal?? LOL ;)
