308mm brake set up

by James_Mould » Sat Oct 04, 2014 7:20 pm

Is there a difference in the struts/ brake mountings on early and late Calibra turbo/ V6. When I tried to see how my new ones would fit today, they don't fit.

My old dics are 284mm. I thought the V6 and turbo had 288mm brakes?

The discs don't fit over the hubs. Is it ok just to machine the hubs to I can get the discs to fit?

Also the 308mm carriers don't fit onto the mountings on the struts. My strut mounting measures 78mm between holes and the new carrier measures 120mm between holes.

The pads are also too big to fit in the callipers. This is a little confusing as it says on the box that the disc and pads are suitable for Vectra and Calibra turbo/ V6.

Well after some research it turns out the carriers are for an astra g/h or vectra c.

So now I need some Vectra or late calibra calipers or complete front struts.

284mm brakes are on early V6 and Turbo Calibra
288mm brakes are on late V6 and Turbo Calibra

As for the 308mm setup, see my guide as you can use a few Astra parts. Calipers can come for a variety of cars. Carriers have to be Vectra B 2.6 GSi or Saab ones.

Ps - If that's the kit you bought off somebody on Facebook, iirc it was advertised as fitting Vectra B, which is false. So I'd get a refund if I were you.

Yeah it is the one I got off facebook. I've messaged the guy but got no reply at the moment. The discs and pads are correct but the carriers aren't.

Yeah I'm going to keep them. Will sell the carriers if I can't get hold of they guy I got them from. I could go through paypal but may have to send the hole lot back to get a refund which I don't want to do. I will keep an eye out for the correct carriers.
