My WIP :)

by tomh » Sat Aug 16, 2014 2:31 am

Seen an advert and after always wanting a Calibra seen one I fancied. It was advertised as 'well looked after' and the guy was apprantly an 'enthuiast' check out the washer jet and massive (so big it was dented at the bottom) backbox.

I shall begin..........

Image

Image

when I went to see the car it was up for £800 he described as 'lovey' and 'well cared for'..........however id describe as 'left and not run for a while' it wasn't worth the asking price that so made a more realistic offer and a deal was done.

Got it home and do with all cars I have gave a good clean,

Image

much cleaner

Image

Now it was time to see how well the car had been looked after seen as I had a book full of reciepts and the guy was an 'enthuiast'

That god awful backbox had to go it was just stupid, but seen as the car had a full stainless i decided to chop the end and just get a cheapo tip

Image

then decided I wanted some early style badges

Image

woop woop

Image

You'll notice the tip from the exhaust fell off

I knew it needed a new bonnet and wings along with other bits inc sunroof as it stuck open (that was a fun day)..........................luckily i spotted a non runner on ebay and thought for the bits I need it would work out cheaper....

Image

After getting the car I couldnt believe the sunroofs are different :(......still the rear bumper has never sat right so decided to spend a day swapping bits.....

here was the rear I was greeted with on mine,

Image

and the front

Image

not impressed but luckily my donor car was in much better shape

rear of donor

Image

and check out my front vs donor :o

Image

next my wings were all bubbled so wings also swapped along with bumpers and airbox

Image

wing fitted from donor along with orignal indicators

Image

non rusty bonnet also swapped

Image

although the wing is scratched they are both in better nick than my old ones, car given a quick machine polish to blend wings / bonnet in

Image

added front and rear mudflaps along with a new exhaust tip ;) you'll also notice a red 16v badge in red from a VW (before anyone says its not a red top lol)

Image

and my fav pic so far

Image

I have soooooooooooo much to do but I'm heading in the right direction, Bumper to be painted, Engine to be swapped :(, Sunroof i need to find an early one, Towbar (needed for next project ;) ) Interior etc etc etc all still to be done or require work.........:( I just need some spare time to crack on but spare time is in short supply

welcome to cc.net, you've done a bit of work there well done

you'll always find there are things that are not quite right when you first buy an older car, thats where the fun begins finding out all the things that need putting right
BETTER TO HAVE A CALIBRA AND NOT NEED ONE, THAN NEED A CALIBRA AND NOT HAVE ONE!!!

Mate...

Well done with the progress, that you've made...

Hard luck with the Blown Motor, after all that effort...

If I was local, I would certainly have swapped you the chrome tail lights, for some stock ones!

Best Wishes!!!
