My new 8V Auto

by roygdavis » Sun Sep 04, 2011 8:58 pm

Hi,

Just thought I'd make some noises about my new Calibra (have previously owned 2 of them, but some scallywag stolen the first one, and the 2nd had too many faults that I couldn't afford to repair).

It's an 8V Auto which I picked up from eBay for £365 with 6 months MOT!!! Not in too bad condition, but still quite a bit of work to do. Think I might keep some sort of diary on its progress here...

Problems:
Needs a bit of welding on the doors and most importantly on the sill area below the door (both sides, where there is a join in the bodywork).
The seats have been replaced with good condition leather, but are not heated (needs wiring in and switches installing
Lots of scratches and dings to sort
Exhaust might have a hole in it - can smell it slightly when the windows are open
Oil pressure light comes on when engine is at temp and idling (oddly, seems worse on hot days - hopefully a sensor fault
    Pressure sender/dial permanently on max
Slight oil leak from a sensor on the side of the engine - just an o-ring

Think that's it for now! A few pics can be found here: https://picasaweb.google.com/109916028677905825960/Calibra?authkey=Gv1sRgCM6pk6Di6pOvqQE

Hi Mike,

It does have a leak. Looks like it's coming from sensor about half-way down the left side of the engine...think I may have found the problem!
