Re: VXT Racing Development's Calibra... UPDATED 19/11/2011

As said in my other thread, I've decided to keep the old Calibra and get her fixed.

SO... today I have purchased the new rear shoes and fitting kit and will try and get them fitted this weekend (if they come by then)

Quick question it states on the advisory items that the front to rear brake pip is slightly corroded, will this be the hard lines not the flexi hose type right?

The welding that is required is stated as so... Nearside rear vehicle structure has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings, I'll try and get a photo of what I think they are talking about...

Got a tyre waiting to go on and the headlights need sorted as the beams on the offside are too high and too far to the left, then its tax and re-insure and mot... then its back on the road...

Rear Shoes replaced along with new fitting kit, adjusted handbrake. All working much better now, although thinkthe handbrake cable could do with being replaced.

MOT going to be booked for end of the month so just enough time to get the tyre sorted out too.

Calibra is Booked in for welding and MOT on the 23rd, given the garage the Car for the week and told them to get on with it as and when as there's no rush also getting them to sort some of the advisories too, then its time for tax and insurance and hopefully back on the road start of May :)

Cheers for talking me round people...

So decided as it was a nice day I would get the Calibra out its cave and give it a good going over, first off like a right **** I parked it facing into the garage which made it interesting as its been sat there for a month so needless to say the battery was flatter then a pancake after a fat man had sat on it so I had the fun of towing it out with my work van and then had to get the jump leads on it. Managed to get it started and turned it round so I wouldn't have to go through that again.

Open the bonnet and was hit by as a full on potent smell of petrol... yep one of the fuel hoses had split and was spraying fuel out so thats going to need attention, apart form that all else seems to be ok, got it tucked back in the garage and will have to source a replacement hose, might just take it off and go to Pirtek and see if they'll make me one up (know a guy there so should get it at a good rate)

Just need to get the tax and insurance sorted on it too and it will finally be back on the road, got a few other bits that need attention (tyres etc...) then I might be looking to sell up, so watch this space...

Took the split fuel hose along to Pirtek, managed to get a new one made up and the guy didnt even charge me for it :) saved me a few quid, so got to get that refitted today then charge the battery back up and double check the other hoses are ok, before tax and insurance at the end of the month, then she's back on the road :)

Always worth asking these guys, sometimes it works out a lot cheaper...

So... It would appear that I have not updated this thread for a while now. You'll be pleased to know that my Calibra is still going strong, flew through its mot in October with no problems. I have added a few bits since the last update, think pictures speak louder that words...

Ill get some more updated photos up when I get a chance. Plenty of plans still to arrange, including a possible change of engine, keep watching... Peace!
