new member advice needed

by Frazb » Mon Sep 21, 2015 10:13 pm

Having wanted one in the 90's but not able to insure one I am going to view a couple of cally's this week. Both 93 models with the redtop engine. Anything in particular i need to be aware of. Any major rust problems with them anywhere?

You've found 2 redtops to look at? How did you manage that?

Usual places for rust: rear wheel arches & the bottom/back of the door sills.
Calibras had a poor reputation for handling because very few changed the springs & dampers.

I hope you find something pleasing.

Cheers folks, both cars are a bit away from me, been sent pics of one and it is rough underneath and in the boot there is signs of rust starting. The other has only 71k on the clock, 2 owners only doing a couple of thousand miles a year max, it looks very clean all round and underneath, some minor signs of bubbling at the bottom on the rear arches. Serviced annually by the owner and last timing belt change was 2009 and only done 7.5 k miles since. Think this is the one I will be going for, just need to go down and see it.

Yeah the nicer one looks like new, slight wear on the bolster but the door cards don't appear to have blown which is a bonus
