Little help returning to Vauxhall

by spannaz » Sat Jun 06, 2015 8:28 pm

OK where to start......

Dad of 3 boys aged 42 self employed. When I was young I had a mk1 astra GTE had Courteney drop a calibra turbo lump in, got my ugly mug in max power etc, spent a small fortune the usual story.
Time has moved on, but the vauxhall bug never goes away. Had a brief spell with vector gsi's, but no V6 was ever a match for the old redtop.
Wife always regrets selling her calibra, so here we are looking to home one. However it's been a while and reluctant to by a mobile skip wondering if there are any decent ones still living?
Minimum requirement......Red top would love another turbo, but they are very rare from what I can find out. So maybe a standard nice one. Plans are to reatore, store, show and shine and enjoy it. Both of us are petrol heads, and so are the kids.
One BIG question, can't remember the seating layout. Are they 4 or 5 seats?

So can anyone suggest best place to start, and remind me of their weakness'. I have a feeling these will be real future classics, so want to save one and give the family something we can all enjoy.
Thanks
Stuart 8-)

They are four seaters mate.Theres a few different types on
Gumtree and Ebay for sale, mainly ecotecs.8valves and a couple
of v6s.There is one white red top for sale on Gumtree in the
Glasgow area. You should take a look to give yourself some ideas.

Mk1 GTE? I wanted one of those when I was younger. There was a special feel with my 1300 Mk1 which I've not found in any other car.

I think you are more likely to find a nice turbo than a nice XE/Red Top. They seem to have been looked after a little better & XEs are a more popular donor engine for other cars so many will have been broken for this reason.

Good luck with your search.

A few SE2's come up once in a while. That will get you an XE.
