Ebay wheel issue, advice please.

by BMJ » Thu Nov 08, 2012 1:20 pm

Hi Guys,
I bought the following rims on ebay they quoted 18x8, ET45 and PCD 5x110, link below:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/200830469338 ... 1497.l2649

I opened up a dispute in paypal, because I received today rims that were 18x8, ET42 and PCD 5x112, the sellers reponse was was:

Hi there,
You have ordered the wheels to fit a vauxhall vehicle which we have sent, in the uk we send 5x112 wheels to fit 5x110 / 5x112 / 5x114 this is normal practice and we do this every day without problems, we have sent you the correct bolts to fit these to the car and they wheels will look stunning on the car, please let me know if this is ok, so that we can resolve the issue, the only other option is t refund you in full once the goods are back as all of our alloys are 5x112

many thanks, michael, jjt

What do you guys think?

P.S. I looked at the bolts and they have a floating head which would allow fitment 5x110 but would this be safe?

Nor me...if it was listed as 5x110, then that is what you should have.

and refuse to pay return postage too, it's their mistake!

Thanks guys for all the responses it is appreciated.

Yeah I didn't appreciate the false advertising either it was upsetting to get something other than I expected, but I think I might keep them as I have been keen on these rims and it seem as per Steve's and Rich's advice they seem to be OK to run with the wobbly bolts, and Rich's seem to have been running on 18's with wobble bolts for years with no problems.

I'm currently running 17x7, ET49, 5x110. I think I'll also fit my 17's with semi racing slick's, and use them for a bit of weekend racing with the club MX-5 boys.
P.S. Just a little side note, as I was curious to know how much of difference their was between the weight of the orginal 205/55/15 rims and tyres they come in at 16.5kg, my 205/45/17 they come in at 17.5kg.

Thanks again

Boris

Mate...

I've actually always like that 'Style' of Rims as well...

I also bought another set of mags that turned out to be 112 PCD, and they do fit...

Just gotta get some tyres on them, and they'll be used for the 'Winter Look'

They look good Eddey I was thinking of getting these rims to, but im a sucker for the LM style.

I tried my new ones on today they sit well and the bolts screw in properly, and enough space alround, I might have to roll the front guards, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Mate...

I got my guards rolled, as they rubbed when going over dips at speed...

At the time I had 215/45 R17 and now have 225/40 R18 on the Front...

I'm going to fit some 215's on the front again, as soon as I can, to aid the turning circle and steering...

They look very nice, but I wouldn't accept them as they're not what was described. I would open a case directly through ebay support and fight to get your money back and not pay for return postage. Then look else where.

Thanks James,
I appreciate your input, I would normal do the same. But with the resurrence from Rich and Steve I thought I'd give it a shot and actually fitted them up to the hub and checked the rims for fit and clearance, by getting out the old vernier caliper, everything seemed to check out ok, so I'll give them a shot.

Hi Eddey,
Thanks for the information it is appreciated.

I think the problem with rubbing in your case maybe in part the fact that the overall diameter the 225/40/18 would be 637mm, keep in mind the standard cally tyre has a diameter of 607mm, that going to reduce the clearance from the tyre to the lip of the guard by 15mm.
See the links below for further details:
http://www.nankangtyres.com.au/tyre1/ns-2.php

http://www.hyperaustralia.com/tyre_calc.htm

I understand and agree with the reduction in the turning circle, but I have order spacer from these guys to try and help out there, link:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/300503186653 ... 1497.l2649

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/300631376940 ... 1497.l2649

these should push out the rims by either 3mm or 5mm, bringing back my ET to 45mm or 47mm based on the shim used. Also bringing back the wheel to the closer to the orginal ET of 49mm, should also improve the handling and put less stress on the hub bearings, which will also prolong the hub bearings life. I think your rims are ET40 so spacers/shims might help there to.

I think from the last I read from your member project, (by the way nice cally looks great in white with the body kit and you dedication to bring it up to spec is inspiring), you have the standard suspension there would be alot more movement in them than the eibach's koni's on my cally. All in all just some food for thought.

Thank again Eddey

Hi Guys,
Below a photo with the test fit. I took out the old trust vernier caliper to measure up all the gaps and it will be OK with an ET45. The wheels have an ET of 42, but i have some four 3mm and four 5mm shims coming in to set that straight.
