Fuel pump not working

by James_Mould » Thu Jun 11, 2015 8:40 pm

Today when I started my car I noticed it took a few turns of the key to get it to start. The fuel pump has stopped making the whurring noise when ignition is switched on. Ive checked the relay and it clicks in when the ignition is turned on. The fuel pump is working as I shorted out pins 30 and 87b on the relay and the fuel pump runs. 87b (red and blue wire to fuel pump is showing no voltage when relay clicks in but pins 85b and 87 show 12 volts when ignition is turned on.

Is there anything else I should be looking for before I go and buy a new relay?

Ive also pined out the signal wires to ecu and everything seems to be ok there.

Ive tried a known working realy today and its still not working. Looks like I will be urapping the wiring this weekend to try and fin the fault.
Ive also dropped the tank now and found the plate for the the fuel pipes has corroded and the fuel feed pioe is completely loose in the he plate. Looks like I will be making a new one out of stainless next week.

Yeah Ive done that Mark and pump runs fine. I didi it that way to empty the tank of fuel before dropping the fuel tank. I will be fitting a Walbro HP pump while Ive got tank off anyway.

Yes the car starts and runs no problem when I bypass the relay. The first stage of the relay pulls in no problem to power the injectors, senssors and signal to ECU. Theres just no power to pump (prime) when ignition is turned on.
