1998 Vauxhall Calibra V6

Hello I am sorry if this is in the wrong place, I am new here and wondered if anyone can give me any advice/information.
I had a J reg Calibra for 4 years until someone backed into it in the supermarket car park, (that was 5 years ago) I decided to get a Vitara 4x4 which has served me well but have no need for the 4x4 now and I am looking for another Calibra.
I have looked at 2 today, both in nice condition, one an automatic. The thing is they both have the back of the sunroof slightly up, the motor sounds like it is running but the roof will not open and will not close properly, there is some moisture on the carpets at the back, it looks like this has come in where the roof will not close.
Can anyone tell me if this is a common problem and how much is it likely to cost for the repair please.
Any information would be greatly appreciated, I live between Nottingham and Derby.
Or if you know of one for sale not too far away, I am looking for around a 1996 under £900.00 is that a fair price?
Thank you.

you can pick up a goodun for 900 quid what engine are you looking for?

2.0 8 valve,2.0 16valve ecco,2.0 16valve red top or V6?
ive left out the turbo as you will be hard pushed to find a runner at that budget, the sunroof's are quite common but easy enough to replace.if you type sunroof into search you will find all if not most of the info you need.oh and welcome to the club :D

hi and welcome to cc.net. you should be able to pick up a fairly decent one for what you have to spend. as Vinny pointed out a decent turbo is out of your range.
most will point you towards the 16v's, but dont be put off by the 8v's or the v6's ( i have one of each ). if you go for a v6 try to get one that has had the timing belt done recently as a garage will charge £300+ to change one.
basically dont rush into buying one there are plenty of good ones out there, its just taking your time in finding one. good luck in your search :)

thank you.

Not really bothered if its 8v or 16v happy with a 2.0ltr not sure what the 'red top' is (sorry  ) the one I had before was 8v and it was fine

I am weary of going for anything lowered, or any other modifications, does this create insurance problems? I am a mature lady

shouldnt cause that many problems with insurance if your a mature lady :D your more than likely to find that most calibras have been modified in some way or an other

Hi and welcome :) Take your time and look at as many as you can. You will find the right one with a bit of work. As for lowering thats your personal preference.

Welcome to the club. Me personally always wanted a 16v redtop as i really liked the engine, however the problem is so do most of the lads who drive nova's, corsa's, astra's and goodness knows what else!!!

Because of the above most 16v redtops are overpriced unfortunately. If i were you i would go for the 8v if speed is not an issue or a v6 if it is. Im not really a big fan of the ecotec engine but thats just me.

Sunroof is a common problem and from what i understand a pain in the arse to fix however in the summer im hoping to do a thread on how to fix this as mines not working. There is a hole i believe in the roof by the switch?? so that you can shut it manually however you need a handle (think you can get one from a scrap yard)

the hole is under a cap just about level with the headrests on the roof, you'll need a allan key not a handle to close it manually
