by skyinsurance » Thu May 01, 2008 2:57 pm

Hi all,

with the permission of club admin I am very pleased to announce the following:

We are offering (paid) Club Calibra members up to a 20% discount on car insurance via our car club scheme underwriters.

Sky Insurance are a UK based insurance broker specialising in insurance for modified, performance and import cars. Sky Insurance hold affiliations with over 200 UK based car clubs and forums and offer preferential rates and discounts to car club members.

Sky Insurance’s target market is the car enthusiast, specialising in policies for members of car clubs such as clubcalibra, we firmly believe that anyone who takes the time to join a car club and who takes pride in their car is a lower risk to an insurer than your average driver.

CRITERIA:

To qualify for the Sky Insurance car club scheme you must have a full 2 years driving experience and:

Be aged 19 or over for Third Party Fire and Theft Cover
Be aged 21 or over for Fully Comprehensive Cover

Our criteria will vary depending on the customer and the car, eg we will not insure a 19 year old on a Subaru Impreza. We do ask that you are able to provide proof of NCB or claim free driving experience.

BENEFITS:

(up to a) 20% discount for car club members
Like for like cover for modifications
Ability to ‘mirror’ NCB to second cars
Second car discounts
Named driver introductory discounts
Company car driving introductory discounts
Representation on car club forums

IMPORTANT:

Please state that you are a member of clubcalibra when you speak to us (you will be asked). It is very important that you make us aware of your club membership, if you say you ‘heard about us on the internet’, you will NOT receive your club member discount.

We want to make this very clear right from the outset; we cannot promise to help every clubcalibra member, we have some criteria to be met and also some exclusions. If we cannot help you, we can only apologise. For the majority however, we should be competitive and be able to provide an excellent level of cover.

do you also do agreed valuation cover for modified vehicles as you find that most company's will only give book value if the car is involved in a accident and i would say most people have spent 1000's more on the car than what you get covered for.

Unfortunately we can only provide agreed valuations for existing customers who had it last year. I understand where you are coming from, I have just insured my 1988 MR2 with Sky but I was unable to get an agreed valuation, frustrating as I have spent £10K + on it but the book value would be next to nothing in comparison.

I can say this, if you were ever in dispute with your insurer (remember we are a broker) over the value of your vehicle, we can step in your behalf and fight your corner.

I have just tried getting a agreed value of £6000 on my new calibra, my old 1 was covered for £5000 even though i had spent alot more. Unfortunatley the car got written off and it seems i am now being made a fool off as they will only offer me £3000 valuation.

They say they have looked at the going rate, but i would like to know where they have looked as you dont see many calibra's with the same spec as mine for sale.

The agreed values we offer do exactly what they say on the tin.. if you have a total loss claim (write off), you will receive the full agreed value back minus your policy excess... no messing around.
It is a great shame that the service has been withdrawn for new customers but it caused a lot of extra administrative work and it was the actual insurers who decided to withdraw the service...

The biggest headache with agreed values is customers thinking that their car is wrth more than it actually is. I had a customer the other day kicking off becasue we would not value his car at what he has paid for it + spent on modifications... (£9600 for a lightly modifed 1998 Toyota Celica ST202! ). The only way we can do these is by stating that the agreed value should be the price the car would sell to in todays market to a like minded car enthusiast...

Agreed values = can of worms.

I still have my other calibra insured with HIC and has an agreed valuation policy to the tune of £6000, each year I send them a spreadsheet with all the modifications listed and how much they cost, somewhere in the region of £14000 I might add, together with all the receipts I have. I would never expect to get back anywhere near hwat I've spent out but neither would I accept a total loss claim to the tune of £1500, which is what the basic car is now worth

Thats the problem i have, the modifications on the car would easily total over £10000.

Might have to shop around when my cover finish's

That is our promotional car, I take it to various meets and shows.. We had a couple of track sessions so my colleague Luke took it out on track.

I had my AW11 MR2 there as well:

If you damage (for example) your modified front bumper, we will replace it with another aftermarket bumper rather than a standard Vauxhall item.
